INFANT Baptism versus BELIEVER’S Baptism

the METHODS of Water Baptism

the MEANING of Water Baptism

When we are baptized with water, we are showing the world

that we have decided to participate in two main actions:

Death to self (sin)

Live to glorify God

Discussion Questions

Getting Started

1.  If you have been baptized, share your experience with the group.  Were you baptized as an infant? An adult?  Were you sprinkled, poured or immersed?  In what ways was it a meaningful day for you?

2.  Just as some of the people today were re-baptized, did that make you think about getting re-baptized?  Why or why not?

Digging Deeper

3.  Read Acts 8:26-39 and then answer these questions:

  • How much did the eunuch know about Jesus before he was baptized?
  • How did the eunuch respond to this experience (v. 39)?
  • John the Baptist: water for repentance (Matthew 3:11).
  • Jesus: Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11-12).
  • John the Baptist (Luke 3:3).
  • Jesus (Matthew 4:17).
  • Peter (Acts 2:38).

4.  We witnessed water baptism today, but there seems to also be a spiritual baptism that happens the moment someone becomes a Christian.  We see this difference in the baptism of John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus.  What is the difference?

5.  Discuss the significance of why these 3 individuals all preached the same message and therefore how we should also preach:

Applying the Bible

6.  Since your baptism, are you living a new life?  Is your life glorifying God or are you living a selfish life?  What can you do this week to show God that you have died to self (sin) and want to live for Him?
